On February 24th, the theater play "Celile (Nazım Hikmet's Mother)" at Alanya Cultural Center
The play "Celile", winner of the "Feminen Art Fest 2023 Honor Award", "Best Female Performance of the Year", and "Female Theater Actress of the Year" awards, continues to be staged. The play, which has received the most prestigious awards and has been met with standing ovations from audiences in many cities across Turkey, also earned a well-deserved award from Ayşegül Yalçıner for her magnificent performance.
In the play "Celile", Ayşegül Yalçıner presents not only Nazım Hikmet's mother or Yahya Kemal's lover, but a powerful female portrait that reaches the audience from the 1900s. During Nazım's long imprisonment and the struggle of all progressive intellectuals, there was also the cry of a mother whose heart beat for her son's freedom. A strong and courageous woman, spoken about for her forbidden love in the last years of the Ottoman Empire, and for her fight for her son's life and freedom in the early years of the Republic. A woman who, when giving her paintings to people, would say, "Please hang this in the living room, not in the bedroom." The first female nude painter of the Ottoman Empire is portrayed in her full reality. A painter who, for her time, was incredibly bold and daring. A woman who, when her son was on a hunger strike, showed the courage to stage an action on the Galata Bridge without hesitation, defying the harsh conditions and pressures of the time. A strong woman, a mother, a lover... Celile!
