Konya and Antalya Still at Odds! Everything Would Be Resolved if It Were Done

The Alacabel Pass project on the Seydişehir-Manavgat road, a crucial connection point between Konya and Antalya, has been stalled for many years. The pass, which is exposed to heavy snowfall during the winter months, is vital for ensuring safe and comfortable travel for drivers. However, delays in the project continue to inconvenience local residents and motorists.

The project, which began in 2016, was initially promised to be completed by 2019, but work is still ongoing. This situation concerns both the local population and politicians. Hasan Ekici, a Konya MP from the Future Party, expressed his frustration with the ongoing delays and called on government officials to take action. Ekici questioned why the project had not been completed and why the region was not given priority.

The Alacabel Pass is not only important for the local community but also plays a significant role in Turkey’s road network. It is one of the shortest routes connecting the Black Sea, Marmara, Southeastern Anatolia, and Central Anatolia regions to the Mediterranean, and is used by millions of vehicles each year. Once completed, the pass will ease transportation in the area and stimulate economic activities.

The pass frequently closes during winter due to adverse weather conditions, posing a significant problem for drivers. Snowfall and ice can cause accidents, leading to potential loss of life and property. The completion of the Alacabel Pass would greatly reduce these risks and ensure safer journeys for drivers.

The delays in the project are attributed to factors such as budget constraints, technical issues, and bureaucratic obstacles. However, the local population and politicians find these delays unacceptable and expect authorities to make greater efforts to complete the project as soon as possible.
