Protest action by TOKİ residents in Alanya regarding "dues"

Residents of TOKİ housing in the Mahmutlar district of Alanya have protested against the monthly maintenance fee of 2,000 TL. AK Party District Chairman Tavlı stated that the issue will be resolved as soon as possible.
CHAIRMAN TAVLI LISTENED TO THE COMPLAINTS
Mehmet Şarani Tavlı, Chairman of the AK Party Alanya District, who listened to the complaints regarding the issue, made the following statements to the TOKİ residents: “At our request, we contacted the property management. I personally spoke on the phone with the general manager of the property management. They will send a delegation here and provide us with a price offer. The residents of this site can either choose to continue with the property management or, if they prefer, establish their own management and run the site themselves. The choice is entirely yours, but at least the visit by the property management and their price offer will be an important guide for you in this process. Today, I also had numerous discussions with our branch manager of TOKİ Sites Management. They admitted that the fee is very high and there is no similar case in Turkey. They supported us in this regard; they said they are on the side of the property owners and informed the current management of the site. They later came back to me and said that the current management claimed, ‘We made this decision but have not implemented it yet,’ and that they would go to the general assembly. We thank them for that. Our state has provided you, dear citizens, with the dream site you wished for in Alanya. We will not let anyone waste such a wonderful service. You can be sure of that. We are with you in every step of the way from now on. We want you to know that.”
WE HAVE A MANAGEMENT PROBLEM
Enes Güneş, a TOKİ resident, said: “There is a serious management problem here. The social housing area was handed over by the construction company with many deficiencies, and most of these deficiencies are being transferred to us through high maintenance fees. We protested against this. We sought dialogue with the management regarding this issue. They refused to engage in any dialogue. If you do not communicate with those here, who will you communicate with? They tried to exclude us from the process. They established a management system according to their own preference and adjusted the expenses according to themselves. If we had not protested, they would have set a salary for themselves of around 133,000 TL. We protested. We do not accept this at all. A citizen paying 7,000 TL monthly installments should not have to pay an additional 2,000 TL as maintenance fee. These people will resign, and we will somehow get to the general assembly. We do not accept the current management. We will let the residents living here manage the site. We will provide all necessary support for this. Those in the management have set their own salaries at 25,000 TL. They have also chosen their own auditors. How will they audit themselves? They have set the auditors' salaries at 6,000 TL. We are supposed to pay 133,000 TL to these people and an additional 2,000 TL as maintenance. This will last until the New Year. After the New Year, they mentioned that the fee would be 3,500 TL. While there are sites in Alanya with a 1,000 TL maintenance fee, we will not let low-income families pay such an amount. We will not allow these people to manage the site in any way.”
CURRENT MANAGEMENT IS UNWANTED
Muzaffer Akkoç, another TOKİ resident, said: “When TOKİ selected the current management, there was not much of a majority here. Inevitably, TOKİ had to leave and hand over the sites to someone else. But now there is a majority here. An equitable management can now be chosen. The current management has inevitably created a trust issue among themselves. No one wants the current management. We are not asking to avoid paying maintenance fees. We want to pay them, but there is one critical issue. We have many problems with roads, internet, social areas, trash cans, and containers. We invite the current management here and demand their resignation.”
WE HAVE MANY PROBLEMS
Mustafa Keçeli, another TOKİ resident, said: “Delivery started on June 28 and continued until July 20, but at the time of delivery, there were no electricity or water subscriptions. We obtained electricity subscriptions. Some neighbors had to manage without water for months. At this point, air conditioners are being serviced even after summer has ended. We also have problems with roads; they have not been asphalted. We have a trash problem as the trash containers are insufficient. My retired neighbor has to walk 2 kilometers to get to the market. Working neighbors have to walk to the Mahmutlar center at 6 a.m. to go to work. We were dumped here, and no one has checked on us since then.”
THIS PLACE WAS BUILT FOR THE POOR
TOKİ resident Hatice Erkuş said: “80% of the roofs in these sites are leaking. The maintenance fee is set at 2,000 TL. This place was built for poor people. Show me a single site in Alanya with a 2,000 TL maintenance fee. This 2,000 TL. Will CHP or AK Party help us in these matters? Retirees, orphans, and relatives of martyrs live here. Will unfinished work be completed using the maintenance fees from these poor people? We are seeking help in this matter. Paying 2,000 TL in maintenance per month is not feasible.”
