Shopkeepers in Alanya Push Back Against the Metropolitan Municipality! They Won't Take a Step

Alanya Wholesale Market Complex Nearing Completion, But Traders Refuse to Move
The Alanya Wholesale Market Complex project, which includes 159 shops, 34 warehouses, and 28 commercial trader shops, is nearing completion. However, the traders in Alanya’s market have once again expressed their strong opposition, saying, "We will definitely not move to that market."
The new market, whose foundation was laid in 2016 in Türkler Neighborhood, has faced ongoing resistance from local traders. The Metropolitan Municipality announced that construction work is nearing completion, with ramps being built, electrical lines being installed, and drinking water pipelines being laid in the area.
However, Adem Kaya, President of the Alanya Market Association, and the traders insist they will not move to the new market and said they are prepared to initiate building a new market by their own means if necessary.
“NARROW, SMALL, AND INSUFFICIENT”
Speaking on the subject, President Kaya reiterated that the area is not suitable for the needs of Alanya’s market traders, describing it as narrow, small, and insufficient. He said:
“We have been objecting to this market from the start. As we have always stated, the reason is that it is narrow, small, and the area is insufficient. But we have received a promise for a new market to be built in the eastern region.
We are somewhat more hopeful on that front. They are planning to move the Konaklı-Payallar market to the east. As Alanya market traders, we are thinking of building a market complex ourselves in the Mahmutlar-Kargıcak area.
There are 62 shops in the Alanya market. 60 of them do not want to move. We will not force those who want to move. But we definitely will not go to the new market.”
