After 40 Years Without Water — Residents of Şıhlar Neighbourhood in Alanya Finally Get Supply

Residents of Şıhlar Mahallesi have celebrated the end of a 40-year wait for a stable water supply.
Following drilling and infrastructure works, a clean drinking-water pipeline was connected to homes in the neighbourhood. At the inauguration ceremony, local headman Hilmi Türker and villagers performed a traditional ritual and expressed relief and happiness: “We lived without water for decades — now we have water, we are very happy.”
Authorities point out that access to water doesn’t just improve daily life: it enhances hygiene, public health and emergency response capabilities — especially vital during summer months.
Analysis & Outlook:
Gaining a stable water supply is a major upgrade in living standards — hygiene, health, and daily comfort all improve considerably.
The project underlines the importance of rural infrastructure and could serve as a blueprint for other underserved neighbourhoods in Alanya.
With reliable utilities, migration from remote areas to urban centres may slow, helping preserve local communities.
