Students depicted the future of Antalya with artificial intelligence

A workshop titled "Sustainability in Tourism with Artificial Intelligence Support" was organized by the students of the Faculty of Architecture at Akdeniz University.

The event, titled "STARC Mediterranean Architecture and Sustainable Tourism," organized by the Mediterranean Association of Freelance Architects (AkdenizSMD), took place at a hotel in the Konyaaltı district, with the participation of prominent tourism professionals, architects, and deans of architecture faculties in Antalya. During the event, students of the Faculty of Architecture, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Hilal Tuğba Örmecioğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İkbal Erbaş, and Dr. Evren Ülkeryıldız, conducted a workshop using artificial intelligence to raise awareness about the sustainability of tourism in Antalya.

The workshop titled "Sea(less), Sand(less), Sun(less): Unsustainability Dystopias in Antalya Tourism" encouraged active participation from attendees to discuss the possibility of future sustainability crises in Antalya tourism. Dystopian scenarios were portrayed using artificial intelligence and visual communication tools to discuss the potential impacts of extreme tourism scenarios on the environment, city, social life, and local culture.

Antalya tourism in the year 2224

Under the headings "Over-Tourism, Over-Pollution, Over-Layering, Place(less), Identity(less)," students developed five dystopian scenarios related to the unsustainability of tourism in Antalya in the year 2224, encouraging participants to think about sustainable tourism strategies. They emphasized the need for Antalya to develop a conscious and responsible approach towards its future tourism development.

The dystopic visuals and videos prepared by the students using artificial intelligence were watched with interest by the participants during the workshop. The students' works will be exhibited at the main entrance foyer of the Faculty of Architecture at Akdeniz University from May 23rd to May 29th.
