Assistant Chief of Police, a Bodybuilding Competitor, Aims for World Championship

Assistant Police Chief Türker Uygur, Third in the 2024 Turkish Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship, Aims for World Championship
Türker Uygur (51), the Deputy Chief of Police in Bolu, who placed third in the 2024 Turkish Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship, said, “Our goal is to win a European Championship, or even a World Championship.”
The Turkish 2024 Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship took place in Istanbul from August 28-31, with athletes competing in various categories. Türker Uygur, serving as the Deputy Chief of Police in Bolu, also participated in the competition. Competing in the over-45 category, Uygur secured third place according to the jury's evaluation. It was revealed that Uygur's father, police officer Tamer Uygur, was martyred in a traffic accident in İzmir in 1985.
Assistant Chief Uygur shared insights about his goals and aspirations. He said, “I have been involved in all kinds of sports since I was 14. Since I entered the police academy at 14, I have had an active sports life. I engaged in various sports, including long-distance cross-country running in the academy, spear and shot put throwing, and later judo, where I won a Turkish championship. I also played ice hockey for about four years in the academy's ice hockey team. Once I started my career, I began focusing on fitness to keep my body dynamic. Given our profession, it is important to look good in uniform and stay dynamic, which is why I got involved in this sport.”
Uygur expressed his desire to be an example to his colleagues and encourage them to engage in sports. He said, “I always recommended this to my students in the police schools and wanted to be a role model. With my wife’s support, we decided to take this sport to the next level by participating in a competition. Perhaps this will help us get better recognition and prove more. At 51, I aimed for this, and with God's permission, we achieved a good result. We received very positive feedback. Many colleagues immediately sent messages saying, ‘I will sign up for the gym tomorrow. I will start exercising again today.’ This made me very happy because this was my goal. I wanted to show my colleagues that despite the challenges of our profession, they should not neglect sports, and that respecting and loving this uniform can be reinforced through sports. At my age, I have proven that this is essential, and I am very happy.”
Regarding his future goals, Uygur stated, “The goal is to win a World Championship. We have set a target. This mission is complete, and new missions will follow. Our goal is a European Championship, and even a World Championship. I will work towards it. I will not give up or stop.”
Uygur also mentioned plans to establish a police sports club both domestically and internationally. He said, “I plan to promote sports within the police force again. There are many colleagues who have achieved greater successes in this sport than I have. They couldn’t publicize or make an impact. My personal achievements have garnered attention due to my age or rank. I hope to bring all of them together under one roof. Whether it’s a police club or a police team, we will form a team and participate in championships and competitions both at home and abroad. This is our intention, and hopefully, we will succeed.”
