Shocking changes in bank cards: Visa and MasterCard replaced by TROY
According to the circular published in the Official Gazette, the use of the national payment system TROY has become mandatory for public payments. Many payments, including pensions and social benefits, will now be processed through the TROY infrastructure.
TURKEY TAKES A STEP TOWARD NATIONAL PAYMENT SYSTEMS
An important step has been taken for Turkey to transition to national payment systems. The circular published in the Official Gazette mandates that all payments made by public institutions will be processed via TROY infrastructure. Additionally, for new card requests and card renewals in public banks, cards will be transitioned to the TROY system unless otherwise stated.
ECONOMIC SECURITY PRIORITIZED
The circular states that the main reason for making the TROY infrastructure mandatory is to enhance Turkey’s economic security. This step aims to promote the use of national payment systems, keep financial resources within the country, and reduce external dependence.
PAYMENTS COVERED BY THE SYSTEM
According to the information in the Official Gazette, the following public payments will be made through the TROY infrastructure:
Pension payments
Loan and scholarship payments
Social assistance
Artisan support payments
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
The new regulation came into effect today. All protocols with public banks will be revised within this scope, and public institutions will ensure that TROY infrastructure is used for citizens' payment transactions.
TROY-COMPATIBLE CARDS TO BE ISSUED
Public institutions will now provide bank and credit cards linked to the TROY infrastructure to citizens. New customers or those requesting card renewals will automatically receive TROY-compatible cards.
With this new system, the use of national payment infrastructure will become widespread, aiming to achieve significant progress in Turkey’s economic security.
