Unauthorized Renovations Continue Unabated in Alanya

Renovations at Alanya’s ‘Ghost Hotel’ Continue Despite Court Ruling
Despite court decisions, renovation work continues unabated at the Sunset Hotel—commonly referred to as the “Ghost Hotel” by the public—located on the coast of Kestel Neighborhood in Alanya. The hotel has remained closed for years due to zoning violations, yet operations persist despite repeated legal warnings. The court ruling clearly stated that the current structure of Sunset Hotel cannot be legally licensed and emphasized that it was built in violation of both the zoning plan and the Coastal Law.
The court also ruled that the hotel is unlicensed and that no legal licensing process could be valid under its current state. Nevertheless, ongoing construction with heavy machinery and workers has drawn criticism.
‘The Hotel Should Be Sealed Off’
Legal experts state that this is a serious legal breach. Attorney Atilla Diler emphasized that applying for a license does not legitimize the renovation works, and highlighted that the hotel should have been sealed under normal procedures. Since there is no valid renovation permit for the current structure, all ongoing activities are considered illegal.
