The Alanya Municipality will host the traditional Gökbel Plateau Oil Wrestling Festival from August 7 to 10, extending the event to 4 days for the first time since its inception in 2005.

LAUNCHING WITH THE THEME “EVERYONE’S GÖKBEL”

This year, the festival embraces inclusivity by adding women’s football and volleyball tournaments alongside the traditional wrestling events.

WOMEN AND CHILDREN INCLUDED IN THE FESTIVAL

Alanya Municipality Advisor Abdurrahman Açıkalın stated: “In the past, this was seen as a male-dominated event. Now we are involving women and children. It’s going to be everyone’s Gökbel.”

SPORTS FIELDS PREPARED ON THE PLATEAU

A football pitch and two volleyball courts have been built for the event. An 8-team tournament is planned with notable teams from previous local competitions.

GÖKBEL OPENING TO SPORTS TOURISM

Gökbel Plateau, located at 1650 meters above sea level, is also being promoted as a high-altitude training base for national and international athletes.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS PREPARATION

Açıkalın emphasized that preparations were made with care for nature: “Only toilets used concrete; no major construction was done. The area remains natural.”

OPEN INVITATION TO THE PUBLIC

All citizens and wrestling enthusiasts are invited to attend the festival from August 7 to 10. A large turnout is expected.
