A First for Alanya! No More Need to Travel to Antalya
Alanya Training and Research Hospital has achieved another significant medical success. In a groundbreaking operation performed jointly by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Uçar from Aladdin Keykubat University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology; Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Op. Dr. Rahşan Eyüp Doğan; and General Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Gökhan Avşar, urinary incontinence was treated laparoscopically (minimally invasive) for the first time in Alanya.
Havva Özgür, a 42-year-old resident of Anamur, sought treatment after experiencing urinary incontinence following a previous hysterectomy. Tests revealed a rare condition called vesicovaginal fistula, a passage forming between the bladder and vagina. Previous treatment attempts had failed, so a multidisciplinary approach was adopted.
Due to adhesions in the patient’s intestines, Urology Specialist Dr. Murat Uçar brought in Obstetrics Specialist Dr. Doğan and General Surgery Specialist Dr. Avşar. The operation, planned and performed by this trio using a closed surgical technique, successfully sealed the fistula and completely resolved the incontinence issue.
Dr. Uçar stated, “Urinary incontinence can occasionally occur after C-sections or hysterectomies. We can now successfully treat such conditions at our hospital using minimally invasive techniques. Both men and women suffering from this problem are welcome to consult our Urology Clinic.”
Highlighting the importance of teamwork in such cases, Dr. Uçar added, “I thank Dr. Doğan and Dr. Avşar for their collaboration, and express my gratitude to our Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Güler for his support.”
The patient, Havva Özgür, expressed her happiness at regaining her health and thanked all the doctors and healthcare professionals involved in her recovery.
