Shock over banned substances sent by cargo to the prison in Alanya.

Kemal T., accused of attempting to smuggle banned substances into Alanya L-Type Closed Prison, was sentenced to 18 years and 9 months in prison and a judicial fine of 187,500 TRY.
In the case heard at the Alanya 2nd High Criminal Court, it was determined that the defendant concealed drugs inside a pair of trousers and sent it to the prison via cargo.
SENT PANTS BY CARGO TO THE PRISON, DRUGS FOUND INSIDE
According to the case file, the incident emerged on December 4, 2024, when drugs soaked in paper were found inside a pair of trousers sent to Alanya L-Type Closed Prison. Kemal T., who sent the cargo, stated that the pants belonged to Zeki G., who is imprisoned for another crime, and that he had kept the pants during the time Zeki G. stayed at his home years ago, and sent them by cargo upon Zeki G.'s request. The defendant claimed he was unaware of the drugs inside the trousers.
‘I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS DRUGS’
The detained defendant Kemal T. attended the hearing via SEGBİS from prison. In his defense, he said, “I have never touched such a substance in my life. Zeki stayed at my house five years ago and said he forgot his trousers. When he requested from prison, I sent them; I did not know what was inside.”
LAWYER: CLIENT HAD NO INTENT TO COMMIT CRIME
The defendant's lawyer stated that prison cargos are already inspected and his client did not gain financially. “Kemal T. had no intent; he acted upon the request of another defendant who claimed to be his friend. He was unaware there were drugs in the trousers. We request acquittal and release, or otherwise, application of laws in favor of the defendant.”
‘ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE DRUGS INTO PRISON’
The court ruled that the defendant's act constituted the crimes of “Drug Trafficking or Providing” and “Smuggling Prohibited Items into Penal Institutions.” Due to committing multiple offenses with one act, provisions of Article 44 of the Turkish Penal Code were applied.
The defendant was initially sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, then increased by half to 15 years due to the nature of the crime, and further increased to 22 years and 6 months for attempting to smuggle drugs into the prison. The court applied discretionary reduction and reduced the sentence to 18 years and 9 months imprisonment and a fine of 187,500 TRY. The defendant’s detention was continued.
