Efforts to extinguish the forest fire that started in Alanya’s Söğüt Plateau are ongoing without pause. Heart-wrenching images have emerged from the scene, where all teams are mobilized. Farmer Fatih Yılmaz lost his 6-decare grain field to the flames. Hugging his tearful son, Yılmaz gazed long at the charred remains of his field. Wandering through the smoke, he picked up the few unburned grains of wheat with his hands. Yılmaz said, “A whole year of effort and hope has turned to ash. Our bread, our animals’ straw—everything is gone. But thank God we are safe. We’re grateful even for that,” laying bare the scale of the disaster.
