Temperatures in Antalya and Alanya have hit 45 degrees Celsius. Experts especially warn the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.

Extreme Heat Poses a Health Threat

The hottest days of the summer are being experienced. In the Mediterranean region, especially in Antalya and Alanya, temperatures have climbed up to 45°C. According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service, temperatures are 6–8 degrees above seasonal averages. Experts state that such high temperatures pose serious risks, particularly for people with heart and blood pressure conditions. Those exposed to the sun for extended periods are at risk of heatstroke.

Avoid Going Outside Between 11:00 and 16:00

Dr. Ayla Demirtaş, a cardiologist at Antalya Training and Research Hospital, stated: “Special care should be taken for the elderly and children during this heat. People should avoid going outside between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Direct exposure to sunlight can lead to serious health issues.”

Experts also emphasize drinking plenty of water and wearing light-colored, cotton clothing.

Tourists Struggling Too

Many tourists vacationing in Alanya are also finding it difficult to spend time outdoors due to the extreme heat. Local businesses report a decline in participation in outdoor activities. The frequent use of sunscreen and seeking shade are notable behaviors.

Watch Out for Fire Risk

Meteorological officials also warned that high temperatures and low humidity increase the risk of forest fires. Citizens are urged not to burn stubble or leave flammable objects like glass bottles in nature.

Effects May Last for Several Days

According to forecasts, the heatwave is expected to continue for several more days. Even at night, temperatures are not expected to drop below 30°C.
