A puzzling picture in the middle of summer! Hotels in Antalya and Alanya are emptying

Striking statistics emerge: Hotel occupancy in Antalya drops to 68.5%
In the first five months of 2025, Turkey’s tourism sector displayed a complex picture. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, hotel occupancy rates have visibly declined, while the total number of overnight stays showed a limited increase.
DROP MOST NOTICEABLE IN ANTALYA
As of May 2025, occupancy rates in licensed and basic accommodation facilities nationwide dropped by 2.7 points from 54.7% to 51.9%.
According to Turizm Databank’s analysis, this decline was especially evident in major tourism hubs:
In Antalya, occupancy fell by 2.5 points to 68.5%. In Istanbul, it dropped 4 points to 56.9%.
Other key destinations also recorded low occupancy: 50.2% in Muğla, 38.4% in İzmir, and 53.9% in Aydın.
OVERNIGHT STAYS INCREASE SLIGHTLY
Despite the drop in occupancy rates, the total number of overnight stays in accommodation facilities increased by 1.8% in the January–May 2025 period, reaching approximately 63 million.
Stays by foreign visitors rose slightly by 0.4% to nearly 36.8 million, while domestic guest overnights increased by 4% to 27 million.
