Transport Minister’s claim of “36 minutes from Antalya to Alanya” sparks criticism

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu’s statement that “we will reduce travel time between Antalya and Alanya to 36 minutes” has been met with public backlash.

On social media, many reacted sarcastically, commenting, “This calculation must’ve been done by TÜİK,” referring to the state statistics agency known for controversial inflation figures.

The Minister claimed that the current 2.5-hour journey would be reduced to 36 minutes, saving 17.7 billion TL annually.

However, given that the highway will be approximately 137–148 km long, this would require an average speed of around 215 km/h — which is both technically and legally impossible.

The public remains skeptical about the feasibility of the project timeline.
