The incident occurred around 11:15 in the Güzelyalı neighborhood of Atakum district. According to information obtained, despite safety measures taken during infrastructure works, an open manhole posed a danger. Visually impaired English teacher Güldane D.D. and Emrah D. fell into this manhole while walking along the road.

Employees of the company and local residents who noticed the couple falling into the manhole quickly rushed to help. Local residents provided first aid on the spot and called an ambulance. The injured couple was transported to Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Medical Faculty Hospital by the emergency medical teams that arrived at the scene. It was reported that the couple's condition is stable and they are receiving treatment at the hospital.
