Alanya Takes Action to Address Water Purification Issues

During the council meeting, President Osman Özçelik answered questions about the wastewater treatment issue, stating, "The 30-year-old wastewater treatment problem will be completely resolved in approximately 4 years."
At the council meeting, President Osman Özçelik explained that previously, when the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality proposed collaborating with Alanya Municipality on a new wastewater treatment system, the previous municipal administration did not approve the necessary allocations, which prevented the start of constructing a new treatment facility in Alanya. Since taking office, our primary focus has been to relocate the treatment facility outside the city. This issue was among our pre-election promises. We have discussed it, continue to discuss it, and preliminary work has started. With the authority granted by the Council for the allocation, the problem of wastewater treatment in Alanya, which has lasted for about 30 years, will be resolved within approximately 4 years with an underground facility. Until then, the Metropolitan Municipality will tender for the repair and renovation of the existing treatment plant for 450 million lira. The target is to complete these processes by around February. We all live in Alanya and face the same issues. It's important to understand the previous situation as well. If the land had been allocated in the previous term, these problems could have been avoided. It would have been better if it had been provided; it could have been done by now. We would not have experienced these odors and issues. We all more or less know that all those problems were not pumped through the treatment system. During the old administration, it was said that this land would not be allocated and a cultural center would be built instead, but the decision was not made because it was announced beforehand. There were also statements from Mayor Şarani previously. I did not respond to him but made a clarification. Our municipality will do whatever is necessary on behalf of Alanya."
"THE TREATMENT FACILITY WILL BE MOVED UNDERGROUND AND A PARK WILL BE BUILT ABOVE IT"
A matter was also discussed regarding the allocation of municipal land in the area next to the Alanya Bus Station for the expansion and relocation of the treatment facility underground. President Özçelik provided information about the approved item, stating, "The reason for the odor from the current treatment plant is that the filters have not been working for about 8 years. They did not work for some reason back then, and they are not working now for some reason. Two separate treatment systems will be installed and placed underground. The underground part will belong to the Metropolitan Municipality, while the above-ground part will belong to Alanya Municipality. The above-ground area will be at road level and will be our proposed park. From above, the treatment plant will not be visible. A park fitting for Alanya will be created. Parking will also be planned for the empty spaces under the park. The treatment facility will be constructed with new systems. With today's prices, it will be around 4 billion lira, but the price may change in lira terms until it becomes operational."
