In Alanya, potential tsunamis, floods, and inundations could result in destruction and loss of life

Sharing his views on the earthquake, former Alanya Municipal Council Member and former Chairman of the Alanya Municipality Zoning Commission, Senior Civil Engineer Mehmet Ali Tekin stated: "As is known, Alanya is not located directly on an earthquake fault line, but our city is situated between the Southern Cyprus-Hellenic Fault Line, the Northern Isparta-Eğirdir Fault Line, and the Western Fethiye-Burdur Fault Line".
Additionally, the fault lines in our seas have not been definitively identified. Therefore, the fact that Alanya is not directly on a fault line should not mean that we will not be affected by earthquakes. Serious responsibilities regarding earthquakes fall on our state's ministry, local administrators, and technical experts. If we are not prepared for earthquakes that we occasionally feel but do not suffer from, such as the one yesterday that caused fear throughout our city, then:
In the event of a strong earthquake, potential damage and loss of life could occur.
If the earthquake occurs at sea, probable tsunamis, floods, and inundations could result, causing destruction and loss of life.
Earthquakes occur constantly on our planet and coexist with us. Therefore, we can protect ourselves by creating safe buildings and residential areas, inspired by modern and secure urban planning examples like Japan. If such safe structures and living spaces are built, people's fear of earthquakes will be minimized.
It should also be noted that the increase in construction in Alanya after the 2000s is a sign of significant trust in our region".
