Are Russians fleeing — and shifting to Alanya?

The Russian Travel Industry Union announced that tour sales to Israel and Iran have been suspended due to security concerns. Travel agencies are now offering Turkey as an alternative destination for canceled tours. Şükrü Cimrin, Board Member of the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), said, “Although the numbers are not large, it is a positive development for Turkey.”
TOUR SALES SUSPENDED FOR SECURITY REASONS
According to the union, after a travel warning from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tour operators halted sales to Israel and Iran. It was stated that there are currently around 500 Russian tourists in both countries.
TURKEY AND OTHER ALTERNATIVES OFFERED
Daria Domostroeva, PR Director of Intourist, said, “We are offering refunds or alternative destinations like Turkey.” It was noted that developments in Egypt are also being closely monitored.
CİMRİN: “A POSITIVE SITUATION FOR US”
Cimrin stated, “No one wants their citizens vacationing in risky areas. This decision was taken solely due to security concerns,” and added it could have positive effects for Turkey.
REMARKABLE TOURISM DATA
According to Cimrin, approximately 72,600 Russian tourists visited Israel in 2024, and 158,500 in 2023. About 50,000 Russian tourists travel to Iran annually.
“MAY PROVIDE EXTRA SUPPORT TO TURKEY”
Cimrin reminded that Turkey receives around 6.5 million Russian tourists annually. The diverted 150,000 tourists may not be a huge number, but could still provide additional support.
“HIGHLIGHTING SAFETY IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT”
Cimrin emphasized, “Portraying Turkey as a safe destination is very important. This image is just as valuable as the number of tourists.”
