POS Machine Debate in Alanya Markets

As of August 15, it is planned to introduce POS machines in local markets, allowing residents to shop using credit or debit cards. While the initiative aims to make payments easier, some citizens reacted, saying, “How can rural vendors use a POS machine?” Speaking to DİM TV, locals stated they felt forced to use credit cards.

‘FORCING EVERYONE TO USE CREDIT CARDS’

Opposing POS machine use in markets, Ayşe Uysal Aksu said: “How can a local farmer selling lemons use a POS machine? Purchasing power is already low, and now they will deduct taxes and commissions. They are forcing everyone to use credit cards. This should not apply in markets.”

‘PEOPLE APPROACH IT WITH PREJUDICE’

Turgay Akkuş said POS machines are important: “Everything is expensive, so POS machines are necessary. People are prejudiced because of bank fees, but I think it’s a good idea. A customer with a card but no cash can still shop, and sales will increase.”

‘THEY SEE CASH AS A BURDEN’

Yalçın Kaplan said: “POS machines are everywhere now, and they should also be in markets. People don’t carry cash, they use cards. Small fees are not a problem for us.”

‘RURAL VENDORS CAN’T USE POS MACHINES’

Mustafa Cura stated: “POS machines should be used but not made mandatory. Many rural vendors don’t even have smartphones. Let big market sellers use them, but don’t force everyone.”
