Avocado Planting on Public Land in Alanya Raises Red Flag for Agriculture
12 November / Gazetealanya.com

In Alanya’s Yeşilöz district, a private land-owner is alleged to have planted avocado trees on approximately 4 000 m² of municipal land.
Local residents have voiced concerns and urged authorities to intervene. Meanwhile, the head of the Agricultural Chamber, Tahir Göktepe, warns that this incident underscores a deeper sectoral challenge: lack of production planning and absence of minimum pricing are putting regional farming at risk.
Producers caution that unless such unregulated projects are halted and production standards enforced — particularly with the surge in avocado cultivation — traditional crops may be displaced and import dependence could rise.
