The number of women in Turkey will surpass the number of men in 2026
In Turkey, the female population is expected to surpass the male population for the first time in 86 years in 2026.
According to data compiled from the population projections of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), last year the country's population was 85 million 372 thousand 377, with 42 million 734 thousand 71 men and 42 million 638 thousand 306 women.
The institute's population projections indicate that this year the total population is expected to reach 85 million 811 thousand 876, with 42 million 933 thousand 857 men and 42 million 878 thousand 19 women.
After 86 years of male population dominance, this will change in 2026 when the number of women in Turkey will exceed the number of men. It is projected that in this year, the population will reach 86 million 654 thousand 276, with 43 million 314 thousand 221 men and 43 million 340 thousand 55 women. Thus, the number of women will be 25 thousand 834 more than the number of men.
By 2030, the population is expected to rise to 88 million 188 thousand 221, with 43 million 996 thousand 753 men and 44 million 191 thousand 468 women. Therefore, in 2030, the female population will exceed the male population by 194 thousand 715 people.
The Female Population Will Exceed the Male Population by 1.5 Million in 2075
In 2050, when the population is expected to reach 93 million 774 thousand 618, the number of women will be 47 million 392 thousand 442. The male population is projected to be 46 million 382 thousand 176 in the same year. The difference between the two populations will be 1 million 10 thousand 266.
It is anticipated that the population of Turkey will continue to grow until the mid-2050s and then begin to decline. By 2075, the country’s population is expected to decrease to 88 million 286 thousand 941. During this period, the number of women will be 44 million 901 thousand 967, exceeding the male population by 1 million 516 thousand 993. The male population is expected to be 43 million 384 thousand 974.
Female dominance in the population will continue into the 22nd century. In this context, it is projected that by 2100, the country’s population will be 76 million 799 thousand 416. Of this population, 37 million 713 thousand 747 will be men and 39 million 85 thousand 669 will be women. Thus, the female population will exceed the male population by 1 million 371 thousand 922.
