Mango production in Alanya is rapidly increasing: local mango has become a favorite among consumers

Mango production in Alanya is increasing every year thanks to the area's favorable climate conditions. Particularly, the production of varieties such as Naomi and Keitt is becoming more widespread, and local mangoes are attracting consumers' attention with their taste. Despite the challenging production process and costly investments, mango cultivation is rapidly growing in Alanya.
As one of the regions most involved in tropical fruit cultivation, Alanya is seeing a growing trend in mango production. Due to the suitable climate in the area, the taste and aroma of local mangoes have started to compete with imported ones. This has led consumers to favor local production. Currently, mango is produced on approximately 2,000 decares of land in Alanya, and this area is expanding each year.
Tahir Göktepe, President of the Alanya Chamber of Agriculture, stated that mango production in the district is steadily increasing and that mangoes have adapted well in Alanya. Göktepe highlighted that varieties like "Naomi" and "Keitt" have performed well in the region. However, he also pointed out the difficulties in mango production, saying, "Mango production is quite a labor-intensive process. Especially when the temperature inside the greenhouse exceeds 50 degrees, production becomes even more challenging. Moreover, this process requires significant financial investment. Proper care, pest protection, adequate water supply, and pruning are crucial throughout the process, from planting the saplings to harvesting the fruit."
Göktepe also addressed the pruning of mango trees, noting, "For example, while pruning is being applied to Keitt mango trees, this procedure is not done for Naomi mangoes. During the flowering period in March, it is necessary to remove the parts where flowers do not form. This is a very important step to increase fruit yield." The rapidly growing mango production in Alanya is bringing joy to local producers and offering consumers a high-quality and tasty option.
