Mounted Police Units Patrol Antalya’s Beaches

With the start of the tourism season, mounted police patrols have taken to the beaches of Antalya, ensuring security while attracting the attention of both local and foreign tourists. Horses patrolling Konyaaltı Beach play an active role in maintaining order with their strong instincts and deterrent presence.

Under the Antalya Police Department, the Mounted Police Unit has begun patrolling the coastal areas. A total of 12 horses are deployed, each undergoing daily training with professional riders. Among them are ‘Babilon’ and ‘Filika’, a mother-daughter pair.

Police Commissioner Berk İncekara emphasized, “Mounted units can be as effective as water cannon vehicles (TOMAs) in crowd control. They have strong physical and psychological deterrent capabilities.” He also noted that citizens feel safer and that their presence is especially crucial during holidays and peak tourist times.

Thanks to the strong bond between horses and their riders, the teams can sense danger early and scan their surroundings more effectively. These mounted units contribute not only to public safety but have also become iconic figures along Antalya’s peaceful coastline.
