Tourists Coming to Alanya Have No Money! Tough Times for Local Shopkeepers

As Eid al-Adha comes to an end in Alanya, local shopkeepers were left disappointed. Nuri Demir, the President of Alanya Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (ALESO), stated that shopkeepers have never been in such a difficult situation before.

After the holiday, the economic picture in Alanya turned into a disappointment, especially for small business owners. The usual festive rush was replaced by stagnation this year. ALESO President Nuri Demir revealed the depth of the crisis, stating, “Shopkeepers are experiencing the worst period in history,” and emphasized that not only the holiday but the entire season is at risk.

HANDS OF SHOPKEEPERS ARE TIED

In his statement, Demir said, “Shopkeepers are not only failing to benefit from the holiday but may not even survive the entire season. They are deeply worried and don’t know what to do. Everyone is in a bad situation. All institutions are pressuring shopkeepers. Tourists arriving in Alanya have no money to spend. Hotels are not full, and shopkeepers cannot meet their expenses. Every shopkeeper I talk to shares the same concerns; not one can say they’re doing fine. We’ve never faced such hardship. Hopefully, things will improve once schools are out for summer.”
