Dark Outlook in Alanya: No One Will Come Out a Winner

During the popular 5x5 program on Alanya Posta TV, tourism under the shadow of war was discussed, and a bleak picture emerged.

Journalists Hilmi Karagöz and Gaye Coşkun sought answers to the question, “What will tourism look like under the shadow of war?” as they discussed the stagnation of Alanya's tourism and the potential effects of the Israel-Iran war on the region and the country.

Karagöz said: “It seems we will have to get used to living with wars for a while longer. There are negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but no results yet.

NO WINNERS

There have been wars in the Middle East for a long time. Let’s say wars — one side is a state, but it spread from Lebanon to Iran. It’s impossible not to be affected. When a fire burns there, the smoke spreads everywhere. During the Russia-Ukraine war, there was a boom in the construction and real estate sector. Supply couldn't meet demand, yet still, there were no real winners.

AIRSPACES ARE AFFECTED

Local people could no longer afford rent. One sector profited, but the people lost. We won’t benefit from an Iran-Israel war either. Tourism doesn’t thrive under the shadow of war. There can be no vacation where peace and safety don’t exist. Besides, how many tourists go to Iran or Israel that we expect them to come here? This war hits us directly from above. Even if we seem like a safe country, it’s a situation affecting airspace.”
