Urgent Call for Alanya from Deputy Kaya

CHP Antalya Deputy Aykut Kaya stated that the real estate and construction sectors in Alanya are on the brink of economic collapse, saying, “Tradesmen lose 60 million dollars monthly, and suicide cases have started.” Sector representatives supported Kaya’s call, demanding urgent regulations on residence permits and investment conditions.
In his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, CHP Antalya Deputy Aykut Kaya drew attention to the economic crisis engulfing the real estate and construction sectors in Alanya. Kaya emphasized that thousands of tradesmen connected to the sector are also in a deep bottleneck and that the decisions made have serious repercussions on the ground. He recalled the 2022 circular that tightened conditions for foreigners to obtain residence permits in Turkey, noting that no consultation was made with the sector before the regulation and that the transition process was conducted without planning. Kaya said, “Many foreign investors have turned their direction to countries like Spain, Greece, and Dubai. The damage suffered by tradesmen in Alanya exceeds 60 million dollars monthly.” Addressing the social impacts of the economic stagnation in Alanya, Kaya stated, “Recently, suicide cases have begun to appear in our district. This situation shows that the crisis has not only economic but also social dimensions.”
Deputy Kaya listed his solutions:
Addressing the Ministry of Interior, Kaya suggested:
Residence quotas should be applied at the district level, not at the neighborhood level.
The required property value for residence permits should be reduced from 200,000 to 100,000 dollars.
Foreign investors who buy property should have access to electricity, water, and internet subscriptions even if they do not have residence permits.
Deputy Aykut Kaya concluded his speech, saying, “If no measures are taken, the crisis will deepen further. Those who ignore Alanya must also take responsibility.”
‘We hope our demands will be positively concluded’
Kaya’s statements were supported by sector representatives in Alanya. Mustafa Küçüker, President of Alanya Contractors Association (MÜTBİR), said, “We sincerely thank our deputy. He is always in consultation with the sector and is well aware of the region’s problems. As our deputy stated, there are serious problems regarding property ownership and residence permits in our region. A person who has bought a title deed cannot stay here long-term or gain residency rights. Nowadays, a title deed owner without a residence permit cannot even get an internet subscription. We do not consider this practice appropriate or correct in the 21st century. We also believe that the 200,000-dollar title deed limit for residence permits should be lowered to 100,000 dollars. Our aim here is to encourage foreign investors and bring them to the region. It should not be forgotten that these people come to our country as investors, not refugees. They bring their money from abroad, spend it here, live here, and contribute to the country’s economy. They do not pose any burden on the state or the healthcare system. Therefore, we believe that these people should be evaluated in the best possible way in our country. Furthermore, residence permit evaluations should now be done at the district level, not the neighborhood level. These changes will both contribute to the regional economy and increase investor confidence. All civil society organizations in Alanya have published a joint declaration with a consensus on this matter. Similarly, political parties have reached a consensus on this issue. We hope the Immigration Administration will take these demands into account and conclude the process positively,” he said.
