Intersection in Alanya’s Kestel Neighborhood Becomes a Hotspot for Accidents

Traffic accidents occurring at the intersection of İsa Küçülmez Street and Belediye Street in Alanya’s Kestel neighborhood have frustrated local residents and business owners. Kestel Neighborhood Headman Hüsnü Uyar stated, “This intersection needs to be reorganized. At the very least, let no more lives be lost.”

Traffic problems in Kestel are growing steadily. The issues on İsa Küçülmez Street, one of the main roads in the neighborhood, are awaiting urgent solutions. Especially at the intersection with Belediye Street, the number of accidents continues to rise. The new access road to Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University and the route to major tourist attractions such as Dim Cave and Dim River pass through this intersection, increasing traffic congestion significantly. The absence of traffic signals or speed-reducing signs makes the area even more dangerous. Locals and merchants are demanding immediate improvements.

"LET’S NOT LOSE ANY MORE LIVES"

Speaking to Dim TV, Headman Hüsnü Uyar said:

“İsa Küçülmez Street is extremely busy. Although the speed limit is 50 km/h, no one follows it. The intersection in front of Çıtırım Bakery is crucial. It’s the main route to the university and Dim Cave. Drivers who enter the intersection first assume they have the right of way, causing frequent accidents. There should be traffic lights or speed-reducing measures. Also, people parking their cars in front of ATMs worsen the traffic. This intersection needs urgent redesign. Additionally, we need improvements near the school in the town center. Let’s prevent loss of life and make life easier for local business owners.”

NO PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AT THE INTERSECTION

In addition to vehicle traffic, pedestrian safety is also a serious issue. Many locals and tourists have to cross the street on foot, but there are no designated pedestrian crossings at the intersection. People risk their lives crossing through traffic or overgrown medians.
