The dam in Alanya is full, but the infrastructure is inadequate

Although the water level in Dim Dam in Alanya has reached a sufficient level, water and electricity shortages continue in the regions of Keşefli, Yeşilöz, İmamlı, and Özvadi. Farmers in Alanya are waiting for a solution.

Water and electricity problems in agricultural irrigation in Alanya are putting farmers in a difficult situation. While it is stated that the fullness of Dim Dam does not negatively affect agricultural production, water shortages persist in some areas, especially Keşefli, Yeşilöz, İmamlı, and Özvadi. Additionally, inadequacies in the electricity infrastructure are making production more difficult for farmers.

"WATER SHORTAGE IN EASTERN ALANYA IS SEVERE"

Hilmi Sevilgen, President of the Alanya Avocado Producers Association, stated that there are currently no problems in the areas supplied by the Dim River irrigation water, but in certain project-covered regions (Keşefli, Yeşilöz, İmamlı, Özvadi) the shortage continues. He emphasized that these areas grow tropical products, which require high amounts of water. He also pointed out that the electricity infrastructure is problematic, as the grids planned 15-20 years ago are insufficient to meet today’s 1,500–2,000 subscribers.

Sevilgen said, “The water level in Dim River is very good, no problem for now. However, the project areas such as Keşefli, Yeşilöz, İmamlı, and Özvadi have not yet been supplied with water. The shortage there is serious, and the water demand is even higher because of tropical crops. On top of that, we have electricity problems, as the current grids were designed years ago for far fewer households. Today, the number of subscribers has greatly increased, irrigation has added extra load, and the infrastructure is inadequate. Our request is for water to reach these regions as soon as possible.”

"MEETINGS WITH DSİ AND IRRIGATION UNION CONTINUE"

Tahir Göktepe, President of the Alanya Chamber of Agriculture, announced that the Dim Dam’s water level is above the operating quota, so there is nothing to negatively affect agricultural production. He stated that water problems in the eastern part of Alanya have been resolved after meetings with the Irrigation Union and DSİ Regional Directorate. He noted that some hydrants require time adjustments, new equipment has been purchased, and installation will be completed by Thursday. Göktepe thanked the authorities for their sensitive and solution-oriented approach to ensuring that farmers are not disadvantaged.
