What “Citizenship Salary” Could Mean for Alanya: Support for Low-Income Families

A new social support mechanism called the Income-Complementing Family Support System, or “citizenship salary,” is being prepared in Turkey. Under this plan, households with monthly income below a certain threshold will receive state payments to make up the difference.
The program is expected to launch in 2026 in selected pilot provinces.
The model sets an income ceiling (based on poverty line or minimum wage), and if a household’s income is below that level, the government covers the gap.
For Alanya’s low-income families, especially those struggling with cost of living, this support could significantly improve their situation. However, experts warn that successful implementation hinges on clear eligibility criteria, transparent income verification, and strong oversight.
In the long run, if well executed, the scheme could become a cornerstone of social protection in Alanya and help reduce economic disparity.
