This trio is burning the pockets of Alanya residents! Prices hit the peak

In Alanya, the prices of okra and borlotti beans, preferred for their olive oil or hot dishes in summer, have shocked with their high costs.

Prices of okra, borlotti beans, and lemons sold both in markets and grocery stores in Alanya have surprised observers. Priced between 150-200 Turkish Lira per kilogram, okra and borlotti beans are causing a strain on wallets. Lemons are being sold at 100 TL in grocery stores, borlotti beans at 150 TL, and okra at 160 TL, awaiting buyers.

REDUCED PRODUCTION LEADING TO INCREASED PRICES

Highlighting the expectation of soaring lemon prices in recent weeks, Sevilgen mentioned, "For the past 3-4 years, lemons were sold for 3-5 TL. Farmers had been uprooting their trees. The number of farmers decreased. There were no more farmers left. Lemons were abandoned to die when they were sold for 3-5 TL about 2-3 years ago. Now, lemon prices have risen to these levels."

PRICE OF LEMONS: 100 TL PER KILOGRAM

Due to costs not being covered in recent years, many lemon trees in the Mediterranean region were uprooted. Apart from lemons, as farmers planted fruits such as avocados to cover their costs, recent declines in lemon prices have astonished residents. Lemons are sold for 35 TL per kilogram at the market, 80 TL at the market, and 100 TL at grocery stores in Alanya. Adem Kaya, President of the Alanya Wholesale Market Association, stated, "Selling lemons for 35 TL per kilogram at the market and grocery stores is very wrong. Strict supervision is necessary."

OKRA PRICED AT 80 TL AT THE MARKET

Adem Kaya, President of the Alanya Wholesale Market Association, noted that the scarcity of okra production is causing high prices. He said, "Okra production is very limited. It goes directly from the producer to the market and grocery store stalls. Currently, okra is priced at 80 TL at the wholesale market."

"FEAR OF PRODUCING BORLOTTI BEANS"

Looking at borlotti bean prices in Alanya, they are priced at 100 TL at the market, 130 TL at the market, and 150 TL at grocery stores. Beans are also sold at 120 TL at the market, which is why farmers are hesitant to produce borlotti beans, especially considering that borlotti beans are more expensive than beans. Kaya said, "Bean prices are currently up-to-date. In addition, farmers are afraid to produce borlotti beans. Because borlotti beans are sold at even higher prices in the stalls."
