METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY TAKES ACTION
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has taken action for pistachio cultivation, synonymous with Gaziantep, in Antalya. Following the Pistachio Workshop organized in 2023 by the Republican People's Party (CHP) Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, it commenced activities in those 2 districts identified as having the most suitable soil and climate conditions for pistachio cultivation.
150 THOUSAND TL INCOME FROM 1 DECARE
Making a statement on the subject, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek said, “We give the best answer to the question of whether pistachios grow in Antalya with our devoted work. "When the pistachio saplings we donate to our farmers develop and reach a high yield period, our producers can earn an average of 150 thousand TL income from 1 decare area".
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality's Agricultural Production Training Staff Mehmet Emre Dalar stated, "Pistachios do not naturally grow in Antalya. In 2023, we conducted a Pistachio Workshop where we observed the potential for pistachio cultivation in Antalya. We provided technical information on grafting techniques and budding methods specific to pistachios in the Elmalı and Korkuteli regions. We are supporting local residents by offering alternative crops such as locally grown pistachios and other alternative products."
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality's Elmalı Service Branch Manager Bilal Kasap stated, "Under the leadership of our farmer-friendly Mayor Muhittin Böcek, we will continue to grow seedlings shoulder to shoulder with our farmers."
Trainer Agah Haktan added, "Initiatives like these, aimed at utilizing abandoned non-agricultural lands for farming and providing additional income for farmers, are a well-placed project implemented by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality."
Farmers who have started cultivating pistachios in Elmalı and Korkuteli expressed their gratitude to Muhittin Böcek, the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality from the CHP, for all the support he has provided to the agriculture sector. The farmers stated, "The Metropolitan Municipality supports the cultivation of pistachios. This support, both in terms of seedlings and education, is crucial for producers. We received far more information than we expected. We thank our farmer-friendly Mayor Muhittin Böcek endlessly."
