Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced the July market index. The index values for the quantities and prices of tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits traded in Antalya's markets showed changes in July 2024 compared to the previous month and the same month of the previous year.

Production Decreased

In July, the quantity indexes showed a decrease compared to the previous month (monthly change): tomatoes decreased by 62.71%, vegetables by 68.34%, and fruits by 26.77%. Compared to the same month of the previous year (annual change), the quantity indexes decreased: tomatoes by 42.31%, vegetables by 34.10%, and fruits by 8.79%. In July, the annual changes in the indexes for quantities were below the 9-year average for tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits, while the annual changes in the price indexes were average for tomatoes and vegetables, and above average for fruits.

Decrease in Quantity Index Led to Price Increase

In July, the tomato price index increased by 8.11% year-on-year, while the 42.31% decrease in quantity contributed to this rise. The vegetable price index increased by 42.58% year-on-year, with the 34.10% decrease in the annual quantity index of vegetables causing the price index to rise. The fruit price index rose by 86.05% year-on-year, and the 8.79% decrease in the annual quantity of fruit also contributed to the increase in the price index.

Record Decrease After 2019

In July, the monthly changes in quantity and price indices set records for tomatoes: a record decrease in quantity since 2019 and a record increase in price since 2023. Compared to the previous month (monthly), the tomato transaction quantity index decreased by 62.71% in July, while the transaction price index increased by 44.95%. Compared to the previous month (monthly), the vegetable transaction quantity index decreased by 68.34% in July, and the transaction price index increased by 48.37%. Considering the July months of the past 6 years, there was a record decrease in the vegetable quantity index and an above-average increase in the price index. Compared to the previous month (monthly), the fruit transaction quantity index decreased by 26.77% in July, while the transaction price index increased by 86.05%.

Considering the July months of the past 6 years, the monthly changes show an average decrease in the fruit quantity index and a below-average increase in the price index.
