The kilogram of dried okra, which is popular among the people of Antalya, is being sold at 1,750 TL at local markets. Okra, which is a staple in winter meals in Antalya, is drawing significant attention due to its high price. Consumers are only able to buy it in smaller quantities, which makes it quite expensive.

A POPULAR DISH IN THE REGION

Okra is a cherished dish throughout Anatolia and recently in the Mediterranean region, especially as an essential part of wedding and winter meals. A vendor in Antalya mentioned, "Okra is an indispensable food item, but with the rising prices, sales have decreased, and demand has also diminished accordingly. We receive okra from the Amasya region and a specific type from Kayseri called 'flower okra.' Other types of okra do not sell well here."

SOLD BY GRAM, NOT KILOGRAM

The vendor noted that while people cannot buy okra by the kilogram, they often purchase 100-150 grams at a time. "The okra is picked before sunrise during the morning prayer and strung individually. It is dried in a place without sunlight and humidity. Due to price increases in our country, okra has also been affected but is starting to decline again. Currently, okra costs 1,750 TL per kilogram. From 100 grams of okra, you can prepare a meal sufficient for a family of 4-5 people. People buy it in 100-150 gram portions. Despite the high prices, there is still demand, especially from expatriates," the vendor added.
