In the Kuşadası district of Aydın, an incident occurred that resulted in three people being hospitalized for mercury poisoning. The event started when a 14-year-old boy opened a talisman he was wearing around his neck, leading to the spillage of mercury and affecting his mother and another woman. AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) arrived at the scene and conducted chemical cleaning operations.

The unfortunate incident took place in the Ege neighborhood of Kuşadası. The 14-year-old S.B., who was wearing the talisman for protection against the evil eye, opened it out of curiosity. Mercury spilled from the talisman and contaminated the boy. His mother, P.B., who tried to help him, and another woman in the house named M.K. also came into contact with the mercury and soon felt unwell.

Emergency Response and Hospitalization

Relatives who noticed the situation immediately contacted emergency services. Medical teams arrived swiftly at the scene, wearing special protective clothing, and provided assistance before transferring 14-year-old S.B., his mother P.B., and the woman M.K. to Kuşadası State Hospital. It was reported that all three individuals are in stable condition and there is no threat to their lives.

AFAD Conducted Chemical Cleaning

Upon realizing the mercury spillage, AFAD teams were called to the scene. The Aydın AFAD teams, using special equipment, conducted cleaning operations to remove the chemical substances from the house. Following the incident, all traces of mercury in the home were completely cleaned, and authorities reported that the effects of the incident have been fully resolved.
