Miraculous Rescue! Found Alive After 36 Hours
In Bartın, fisherman Baykal Özdemir (48), who had set out to sea on his boat, went missing after his boat’s engine broke down. He was found 36 hours later by fellow fishermen from the same company off the coast of Cide district in Kastamonu.
On Thursday at around 18:00, Baykal Özdemir, who had gone out to sea in his 7-meter-long boat named 'Bacanak-2', lost contact with his friends. At 01:30, he called them and reported that he was 1.5 miles offshore and unable to move due to the engine failure, asking for help. When Özdemir could not be reached later, his friends reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Health Condition is Good
Yesterday, three boats from the Western Black Sea Coast Guard Command, a marine police boat, a Coast Guard helicopter, police, gendarmerie, and teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) were dispatched to the area between the İnkumu resort and Amasra Tarlaağzı port. Today, around 06:00, his colleagues found the missing Baykal Özdemir on his boat, 8 miles off the coast of Cide district in Kastamonu. Despite being weak from hunger and thirst, Özdemir's health was reported to be good. He was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
