Lawyer's reaction to the release of a drunk driver in Alanya

An accident in Alanya, which resulted in four people being injured, two of them seriously, has sparked outrage after the driver, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol, was released without any restrictions.
According to the information obtained, the accident occurred on September 21, 2024, on the D-400 Highway in the Kestel neighborhood. The car driven by R.B. crashed into a taxi driven by Emre Aşık, who had stopped by the roadside to pick up passengers. As a result of the accident, R.B., taxi driver Emre Aşık, and passengers Giedre Naujokiene and Zemyna Naujokiene were injured. The injured were taken to various hospitals for treatment after citizens reported the incident. After treatment, driver R.B., who was found to be driving under the influence, was released under judicial control after being brought before the court.
LAWYER APPEALED
The lawyer of the seriously injured taxi driver Emre Aşık, Serdar Bakkal, made a written statement saying, “The vehicle driven by R.B. crashed into the taxi driven by Emre Aşık while it was parked and passengers were getting in. The driver R.B. was found to be 103 promil alcohol intoxicated. The decision to release R.B. under judicial control has caused an outcry among the family, relatives, and loved ones of the taxi driver. We will exercise our legal right to appeal this decision. This incident is not merely a traffic accident; it constitutes an attempted murder with probable intent. There is no legal justification for the release of a driver with a 103 promil alcohol level who causes an accident resulting in three injuries, two of them serious. This decision has hurt our conscience. R.B., while under the influence, was racing against a motorcyclist from Kargicak to the Alantur area where the accident occurred. The release of the suspect undermines our trust in justice.”
