Five-Star Hotels in Antalya Face Troubles Due to Tourists!

In Antalya, which hosts millions of tourists each year, some hotels are facing trouble due to bedbugs that tourists, particularly from Europe, unknowingly bring in their luggage.
As a tourism hub with a capacity of 650,000 beds, Antalya welcomes millions of tourists annually, with guests staying in five-star hotels, villas, and boutique hotels. Recently, some of the city’s tourism facilities, including hospitals, have reported bedbug issues. The infestation is believed to originate from bedbug eggs that tourists from European countries inadvertently carry in their luggage. Bedbugs and their eggs have been found in hotel rooms, particularly on bed headboards, under the bed base, and in wardrobes. Even after days of pest control treatments, some rooms experience a resurgence of the problem a few weeks later. Following an increase in complaints, large-scale fumigations have been conducted in various facilities, including five-star hotels.
A Noticeable Increase in Recent Years Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çetin from the Faculty of Science at Akdeniz University explained that bedbug eggs, brought by visitors from different countries each year, spread to hotels and then to various parts of the city and even homes, developing into blood-sucking insects within a few days.
"There has been a noticeable increase in the last two years. We’re seeing complaints mostly from hospitals, hotels, and public transportation. Unfortunately, dealing with bedbugs is challenging; it’s not a problem that can be solved with just one treatment. People need to be cautious," said Çetin.
