Jelly candies are being recalled due to choking hazards for children

The famous jelly candy brand Jelly Straws, sold in Turkey, is recalling its jelly straws from the market. The company emphasized that the unique shape and texture of the jelly straws pose a high choking risk for young consumers.

After a series of scandals involving issues such as pork meat, single-hoofed animal meat, drugged yogurt, and starchy cheese, food safety concerns continue to grow.

According to a report shared by yenicaggazetesi.com.tr, a disastrous situation has also occurred in Germany.

PRODUCTS RETURNED

Dutch import company Herman Kuijper BV and its German distribution partner Go Asia Deutschland GmbH have initiated a recall process for this hazardous candy.

The products were immediately removed from the shelves in Go Asia stores in Germany. Consumers were informed not to use the affected products and to return them.

Among the recalled products are “Jelly Straws assorted flavors 10 pcs, 200 grams” and “Jelly Straws assorted 15 pcs, 300 grams” under the Sweet Mellow brand. Particularly affected lot numbers include HERLB023B and HERLB024. These products were sold in various federal states.

STATES WHERE PRODUCTS WERE SOLD REVEALED

The affected states include Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland. Consumers in these states are asked to return the recalled products.

CHOKING RISK FOR CHILDREN

The company stated that the special shape and texture of the jelly straws pose a high choking risk for young consumers. The Berlin Food Safety Authority noted that the soft structure and liquid inside increase the risk of getting stuck in the throat. The texture of the jelly straws makes it difficult to intervene quickly in emergencies.
