The era of treatment using hypnosis has begun in Alanya

At the Alanya Training and Research Hospital, Prof. Dr. Kenan Taştan, Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKU), has started offering hypnotherapy services at the GETAT Clinic.
Doctors from the Faculty of Medicine at ALKU, working at the Alanya Training and Research Hospital, continue to introduce innovative patient treatment methods in Alanya. Prof. Dr. Kenan Taştan, Head of the Department of Family Medicine, is now providing services at the hospital’s Traditional and Complementary Medicine (GETAT) Clinic through a “Hypnosis Outpatient Clinic.”
Prof. Dr. Taştan provided information about the use of hypnotherapy in Turkey's medical field, explaining what hypnosis is, who it should be used for, which conditions are not suitable for hypnosis, and how individuals can access the service. He explained that, despite its 5,000-year history, hypnosis does not have a universally agreed-upon definition but is considered a scientific and legal method of traditional complementary medicine. According to the Ministry of Health guidelines, hypnotherapy can be performed by doctors, dentists, and clinical psychologists who have completed 300 hours of clinical hypnosis training. Hypnotherapy is provided to patients for a fee determined by the Social Security Institution (SGK). An initial consultation is conducted to assess whether a patient will benefit from the method and to determine the number of sessions required. Sessions, which can last up to an hour, vary based on the patient and the type of illness. There are tests to determine susceptibility to hypnosis. Hypnosis is a therapy method, and as with other therapies, trust in the therapist and the therapy process is crucial. Prof. Dr. Taştan emphasized, "We refer to the first meeting as ‘establishing rapport.’ The environment should be safe and quiet, with a designated hypnosis chair. If patients have negative thoughts about hypnosis or the therapist, it is better not to proceed."
EFFECTIVE SOLUTION THROUGH HYPNOTHERAPY
Prof. Dr. Taştan also clarified who should not undergo hypnosis, stating, "According to our Ministry of Health, hypnosis is not applied to individuals with personality disorders such as schizophrenia and paranoia, as they may have difficulty distinguishing between reality and fantasy. Another contraindication is substance addiction. Apart from these, hypnosis can be used in nearly every area, yielding positive results. It has been proven effective for issues such as anxiety, fear, and pain, and it is a safe, cost-effective method with no side effects when applied correctly. Hypnosis is an important method for addressing weight problems, sexual issues, and smoking addiction. Individuals wishing to benefit from this service can apply to the GETAT Center located at the Mahmutlar District Clinic," he added.
