Hard Times for Alanya’s Small Businesses: Shops Closing One by One

Slow 2025 Tourism Season Hits Alanya’s Shopkeepers Hard
The underwhelming 2025 tourism season has left many shopkeepers in Alanya struggling. With the expected surge failing to materialize by July, numerous businesses have chosen to shut down or transfer ownership. Hüseyin Değirmenci, Chairman of the Alanya Guesthouse and Restaurant Association, highlighted the decline in hotel occupancy rates and tourist spending, which have significantly impacted local revenues. He noted an increase in “Closing Down” and “For Transfer” signs and said some business owners are considering returning to their hometowns. Değirmenci also warned prospective entrepreneurs against expecting high short-term profits in this sensitive industry. Despite the challenges, he stressed that if the season extends into November, businesses could still recover, urging shopkeepers not to lose hope.
