Egg crisis in Alanya: The price will continue to rise

After the rapid rise in egg prices in Alanya, the President of the Alanya Grocers and Dealers Chamber, Süleyman Hilmi Özdemir, stated that prices will continue to rise.

Price hikes are relentless in Alanya. While an increase in meat prices is expected, egg prices are soaring to record levels. The worldwide avian flu outbreaks have led to the culling of many chickens, reducing egg production. This situation has reflected in the prices. In May 2024, a 30-egg pack was priced at 87.50 TL, but by November 2024, the price rose to 119.50 TL. Currently, eggs are being sold at an average price of 159.50 TL, and if the crisis is not resolved, it is predicted that the price of eggs will exceed 200 TL.

EGG PRICES ARE IN AN UNBELIEVABLE SITUATION

Speaking about the prices and the egg crisis, Süleyman Hilmi Özdemir said: "Avian flu cases have increased worldwide. We also have exports, and prices are affected due to the export destinations. This is a global issue. It is impossible for prices to drop in the near future. The tourism season is about to begin, and hotels will start using eggs. If this issue is not resolved, prices will continue to rise. Currently, there is no avian flu here, but there was an outbreak a few months ago, and many chickens were culled. We are still feeling the aftermath. In the coming months, the price of a single egg may reach 10 TL. Right now, the price ranges from 6 to 7.5 TL per egg."
