An elderly man in Antalya was defrauded of 600,000 TL: Everything was gone with just one click

Faruk Gülcemal, a retired man living in Antalya, experienced the shock of his life after clicking on a link that appeared on social media. His phone was locked, and when he got it unlocked a day later, he discovered that a loan of 600,000 TL had been taken out in his name. Due to this incident, he started legal proceedings and stated that the security measures of banks were inadequate.

60-year-old retired Faruk Gülcemal had no idea what would happen when he clicked on a link he saw on social media. After clicking the link, his phone suddenly locked and became unusable for 24 hours. When he took his phone to the service center to unlock it, he experienced the real shock when he went to the bank. After checking his account at the bank branch, he discovered that a loan of 600,000 TL had been taken out in his name.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PAY THIS BACK

Gülcemal said that the fraudsters quickly accessed all his information and carried out the transaction. He mentioned that he lives on his pension and will not be able to pay off such a large loan, and he asked for help from the authorities. After the incident, Gülcemal filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office and announced that he had started legal proceedings.

BANK SECURITY ISSUES: WARNING FROM LAWYER

Faruk Gülcemal's lawyer, Furkan Atmaca, pointed out that fraud cases via mobile banking have been increasing recently. Atmaca mentioned that such transactions often occur during the night, leading to large-scale damages. "Fraudsters usually empty all accounts and take out a large loan within 20-25 minutes. Unfortunately, the security measures of banks are insufficient to prevent such incidents," he said.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU BECOME A VICTIM OF FRAUD?

Lawyer Atmaca emphasized that citizens facing such situations should act quickly. "If you notice that a loan has been taken from your account without your knowledge, or your money has been stolen, you should immediately contact the prosecutor's office. Quick intervention can block the bank accounts and prevent further fraud," he stated. He also added that victims can file a lawsuit against the banks in consumer courts to make them accept responsibility.
