A prostitution scandal in mattresses sent by AFAD to earthquake victims: Women tested positive for AIDS

In the Altınözü district of Hatay, it was discovered that mattresses and blankets sent by AFAD to earthquake victims were being used in a massage parlor where prostitution was taking place. During an operation carried out by authorities, numerous violations were identified.
As part of the investigation, it was determined that an employee of the district’s sports directorate was involved in the incident. It was alleged that after the earthquake, this person was appointed as the manager of a container city and redirected AFAD's supplies to his own business and private properties.
FOREIGN WOMEN WORKED IN THE MASSAGE PARLOR WITHOUT PERMITS
Authorities found that foreign women without work permits were employed in the massage parlor where prostitution was occurring. Their passports were confiscated, and they were allegedly forced to work.
HEALTH ISSUES AND HIV THREAT
As part of the investigation, it was reported that some of the women working in the massage parlor were quarantined due to suspected HIV/AIDS. After medical examinations, they were transferred to a deportation center in Kayseri.
ILLEGAL PAYMENTS AND MISUSE OF PUBLIC RESOURCES
Investigations revealed that some public officials misused AFAD supplies for personal gain. Authorities stated that public funds were unlawfully spent through inflated invoices.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE AND POLICE CONTINUE INVESTIGATION
As part of the ongoing investigation, the suspected employee from the district sports directorate was taken into custody and later released under judicial control. Authorities stated that further connections and irregularities related to the incident are still under investigation.
