Pollution Alert at Alanya Damlataş Beach: Is Swimming Dangerous?

Damlataş Beach, one of Alanya’s most popular beaches, has recently drawn attention due to dirty water discharges. A local resident shared on social media that waste from tour boats, hotels, and sewage lines is directly discharged into the sea. It was also stated that the existing treatment facility cannot handle this load and is insufficient.
According to the resident, Damlataş Beach has practically turned into a septic tank. The post included the words, “We are cutting the branch we are sitting on. If this continues, neither tourists nor Alanya’s tourism revenue will remain. Soon, we will be known as the 'dirty beach'.” Following these statements, residents around the beach have called on the Alanya Municipality to take action.
STATEMENT EXPECTED FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
So far, there has been no official statement from the Alanya Municipality on the matter. Protecting beaches like Damlataş, which have significant touristic importance, is crucial not only for environmental health but also for the economic future of the region. Citizens expect urgent cleaning efforts and increased inspections from the authorities.
IS IT SAFE TO SWIM?
Experts emphasize that swimming in areas contaminated with wastewater can pose health risks. This situation can lead to skin diseases, infections, and stomach problems. Citizens are advised to be cautious.
