Tourism Struggles in Alanya, Shopkeepers Under Pressure

While tourism professionals in Alanya face difficulties due to rising costs and competition, small shopkeepers are struggling economically under the pressure of trademark infringement claims from big brands.

With the start of the 2025 holiday season, hotel occupancy rates in Alanya have risen to 75%. Burhan Sili, President of the Alanya Touristic Operators Association (ALTİD), expects occupancy rates to increase further in June, but he warned that the sector will struggle due to rising costs and the low prices of competing destinations. Sili stated, “We have lost our competitive edge and must be more cautious moving forward.”

Meanwhile, small shopkeepers are facing pressure from big brands over trademark infringement issues. Nuri Demir, President of the Alanya Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (ALESO), highlighted the economic hardships and legal pressures experienced by tradesmen, stating that they are under stress and called for solidarity. ALESO plans to hold a press conference on May 30 to make the voices of tradesmen heard.
