Local Press Crisis in Antalya: 5 Newspapers Shut Down in a Single Day

On May 31, 2025, five local newspapers in Antalya ceased publication, either transitioning to digital platforms or shutting down entirely.

Due to economic hardships and failure to meet the requirements of the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK), five local newspapers in Antalya ended their print publication as of May 31, 2025. The newspapers that closed down include İleri Gazetesi, Hürses, Son Haber, Antalya Gündem, and Yüzyüze.

İleri Gazetesi had a significant place in the city’s media history with its 79-year-long legacy. The other newspapers decided to transition to digital publishing. The name rights and advertisement revenues of the closed newspapers were transferred to the six remaining publications.

The number of local newspapers in Antalya dropped from 11 to 6. The continuing newspapers are: Akdeniz Gerçek, Akdeniz Manşet, Antalya Körfez, Yeni Yüzyıl, Lider, and Ekspres.
