Travel Time Between Antalya and Konya Will Decrease to 2.5 Hours: Demirkapı Tunnel Nears Completion

The Alacabel Tunnel project, which will ease the difficult winter travel between Alanya and Konya, is approaching completion. With the tunnel under construction, the travel time will be reduced by 1.5 hours.

The Alacabel Pass, located at an altitude of 1825 meters on the highway connecting Alanya and Seydişehir district of Konya, was frequently closed during winter due to heavy snow and ice. Thanks to the tunnel under construction, this pass will now offer safer and uninterrupted transportation.

Construction Nears Completion

The double-tube Alacabel Tunnel, with a total length of 15 kilometers, is nearing completion. Concrete lining inside the tunnel is 98% finished, and structural works are 85% completed. The tunnel is planned to open for service in 2025.

Travel Distance Between Alanya and Konya Will Shorten by 1.5 Hours

The route between Seydişehir and Akseki will shorten by 28 kilometers thanks to the tunnel. With the removal of steep ramps and sharp curves, the travel time between Alanya and Konya will drop from 3.5 hours to 2 hours. This change is expected to provide an economic benefit of approximately 150 million dollars annually.

Strategic Transportation Point

The Alacabel Tunnel is located on the shortest highway route connecting the Black Sea, Marmara, Central Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia, and Mediterranean regions. The tunnel holds great importance especially for trade and tourism transportation.
