Was the hotel fire in Alanya caused by an electrical issue? Here are the claims.

A fire that broke out in the basement of an 8-story, 5-star hotel located in the Türkler District of Alanya, Antalya, caused panic. According to initial reports, the fire is believed to have started due to an electrical fault in the dryers located in the hotel's hammam-sauna area. Due to heavy smoke, 622 tourists who were trapped on the upper floors were evacuated by fire crews, while 3 tourists were taken to the hospital.

Terrifying moments were experienced last night at the 5-star hotel located on Atatürk Street in Türkler, one of Alanya’s tourism hotspots. The fire started in the sauna-hammam section on the hotel's basement level and quickly filled the hotel with smoke, spreading to the upper floors.

OUTBREAK OF FIRE AND INITIAL RESPONSE

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire started due to an electrical fault in the laundry and dryer machines located in the basement's sauna-hammam area. Hotel staff, who noticed the flames and heavy smoke, immediately reported the incident to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the alert, numerous fire trucks and ambulances were dispatched quickly from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality’s Alanya Fire Department and nearby stations including Payallar, İncekum, Manavgat, and Gazipaşa.

CHALLENGING EVACUATION & HEALTH SITUATION

Upon arrival, fire teams both fought the flames and made efforts to rescue guests trapped on the upper floors due to the thick smoke. After approximately one hour of careful and intense operations, around 622 hotel guests were safely evacuated. Three foreign tourists, reportedly suffering from asthma, were affected by the smoke and were taken to nearby hospitals after receiving first aid on site. Other guests and some hotel staff who were slightly affected by the smoke received first aid in ambulances stationed around the hotel, where ayran (a traditional yogurt drink) was also offered by staff.
